Donostia / San Sebastián is a city open to the sea, protected by the Igeldo, Urgull and Ulia mountains.

The combination of the Ondarreta and la Concha beaches together with the Santa Clara island in the middle of the bay is one of the images which better identify the city. The third beach in the city, the Zurriola beach, by the Kursaal Congress Palace, is internationally known for its advantages for the practice of surfing.

Donostia / San Sebastián is the administrative capital city of Gipuzkoa, one of the three territories which make up the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country. It is located in the Northeast of the Iberian Peninsula, 30 kilometers far from the French border. In fact, the trans-border axis Donostia-Bayonne makes up an important area for social, economic and tourist development in the Southeast of the European Union (EU).

A medium sized city, with 185,000 inhabitants. It is a city with tertiary and tourist activities, eminently commercial, working in services and congress activities. During the last years Donostia/San Sebastian has placed itself at the forefront of the European cities which base their development upon an integral support to sciences, technology, sustainable development and culture. Its nomination as European Capital of Culture in 2016 endorses this resolute bid of the city. This city, of a temperate climate, is not only characterized for its mild temperatures, but also for the frequent cloudiness and abundant rains which regularly fall all along the year.
